Company Profile
High quality products made by our well trained employees using modern machinery have kept us growing constantly, keeping long term relationships with hundreds of esteemed customers.
The machining foreman Ernst Schad (former gearing foreman at Jahnel-Kestermann - JaKe), founded the Zahnradfabrik Schad on July the 2nd 1951 in the Evinger Street, opposite the coal-mine “Minister Stein”. With initially three employees he mainly focused on repairing gears for local mines and steel plants. In 1963, after completing his university studies in Aachen, Dipl.-Ing. Werner Schad, the son of the company founder, joined the firm. The construction of a new production hall in the current location - Seilerstraße 8 in 1975 laid the foundation for future growth. In 1986 the company purchased the biggest and most modern gear grinding machine in the Ruhr area. It could grind gears up to 1500 mm diameter and 5000 kg weight. The construction of a new production hall in 1990 doubled the indoor production area, supporting the expansion of the company. On October 1st, 1999, Ernst Schad GmbH was taken over by Dr. Ing. Andreas Denstorf as part of the “GO NRW” initiative.
Ernst Schad, guided by his enthusiasm for modern technology, introduced a strategy of ongoing investments, continued by his son and Dr. Denstorf. Thanks to this strategy we are today in possession of ample, specific, up-to-date equipment for the production of gears. The controlled and constant growth allowed us to train our workers diligently and keep them for many years.
The first decade of this century was characterized by massive investment and innovation in the wind energy sector. This resulted in new production methods and machinery.
The oldest gear production company in Dortmund has developed from a local supplier to a highly specialized gear manufacturer, whose high quality products perform all over the world.
